Daly Cherry-Evans has confirmed his commitment to representing Queensland, despite ongoing speculation regarding his future in the sport.
Throughout the off-season, the topic of Cherry-Evans’ contract stirred considerable discussion, with rumours suggesting he had reconsidered his intentions to continue playing beyond his current deal.
This speculation coincided with suggestions that Manly might consider moving Tom Trbojevic to five-eighth for the 2026 season.
Cherry-Evans has now put to rest any doubts about his involvement in the State of Origin after speaking with AAP.

“As long as I am performing at a high enough standard to be selected, I’m eager to get back out there and aim to win the series for Queensland,” he stated.
“There’s no news of any retirement announcement.
“Origin is truly remarkable, and for as long as I have the capability to compete at that level, I will continue to do so.”
Whilst confident about his selection for the Maroons, the Manly and Queensland captain remained somewhat ambiguous regarding his plans beyond 2025.
“I have a clear vision of what I want to achieve next year, but it all depends on how that aligns with the club and the game. There are many factors to consider,” he explained.
“Currently, we are where we are; no declarations, no retirement plans at this moment.
“Ultimately, the club will need to prepare for a future without me. If that were to happen now, I believe the club would manage fine.
“They’re not knocking on my door asking, ‘What’s the situation?’ We are in sync and have an understanding that we will collaborate over the next month.”
