The Jillaroos delivered an exceptional performance in Las Vegas, but the match took a disturbing turn just after half-time when England’s prop Vicky Whitfield suffered a serious injury, causing an eight-minute stoppage while she received medical attention before being transported to hospital.
As the second half began with a kick-off return, Whitfield was abruptly knocked backwards following an ill-timed tackle attempt by Jillaroos standout Sarah Togatuki, resulting in a head collision.
Togatuki quickly withdrew from the tackle, attempting to regain her balance, while her teammates rushed over to assist Whitfield, who lay motionless on the ground.
The incident led to an eight-minute delay, during which the crowd fell silent, anxious for Whitfield’s well-being as medical staff worked to stabilise her before taking her off the field on a stretcher.
“You could see Yasmin Clydsdale was really worried about her opponent,” remarked Allana Ferguson on Nine.
“That was a significant clash of heads; both players were shaken by it,” added Ruan Sims.

“It’s crucial that she is looked after properly. Let’s hope this is just a precaution,” Togatuki stated, having already undergone a head injury assessment during the first half, which ultimately ruled her out for the remainder of the match as trainers requested a follow-up evaluation.
As Togatuki exited the field, referee Belinda Sharpe announced that a penalty would be awarded to England.
The decision was met with a standing ovation from the crowd as Whitfield was escorted off the field.
Togatuki was substituted by Shannon Mato, while Shona Hoyle came on for England.
England’s officials later confirmed that Whitfield had been transported by medical staff to a nearby hospital for further examination.
