As if suffering a defeat wasn’t enough of a blow, Canberra ensured they added insult to injury for Brisbane.
Raiders players overtook the Broncos’ press conference, enthusiastically belting out their victory song from an adjacent room while Michael Maguire and Adam Reynolds faced the media.
The revitalised Green Machine pulled off a significant upset with a 32-22 victory in the nation’s capital on Saturday night.
While the losing coach and captain attempted to address the media, Maguire had to raise his voice to be heard above the celebrations next door.
Whether this was a calculated move or a mere coincidence, Maguire maintained his composure throughout.

“They came out strong from the start, and we didn’t respond quickly or firmly enough. Welcome to the NRL,” Maguire remarked.
“It’s an opportunity for me to observe closely and work with the team now.
“There was a lot of anticipation last week; managing that is something we must tackle together.”

Brisbane entered the game as the heavy favourites after thrashing the Roosters 50-14 the previous week.
However, it was the Raiders who performed like genuine premiership contenders, scoring six tries, including two from English debutant Matty Nicholson.
Raiders legend Mal Meninga praised Canberra’s performance while providing a stark reminder for the Broncos.
“They were outplayed,” Meninga stated on Fox League.
“They underestimated tonight, perhaps thinking they would comfortably come here and win.”
Brisbane was generating plenty of buzz in the NRL following their impressive round-one victory.
Veteran playmakers Ben Hunt and Adam Reynolds starred in Sydney but failed to make a mark in Canberra.
Titans halfback Kieran Foran offered some sage words for the pair.
“There’s certainly no need to panic; it’s only round two. They showcased their abilities last week,” Foran commented on Fox League.

“But they really came unstuck against Canberra tonight.
“They simply got the basics wrong. With a completion rate of 65 per cent and 15 errors overall, it’s challenging to secure a win when you’re giving away possession like that.
“If I were Adam Reynolds, I’d be returning to the drawing board. We need to address our areas of effort and get the fundamentals right, then pick ourselves up and aim to regroup for next week.
Having played under Michael Maguire, I know the sort of coach he is, and he will have them fired up for their next match.”
Brisbane will host North Queensland in round three while the Raiders are set to face Manly.
