Sakina Ouzraoui’s goal in the dying moments of stoppage time left the Ghanaian team heartbroken, marking a difficult start for Kim Lars Bjorkegren in his role as head coach of the Black Queens.
Having been appointed on February 14th, expectations were cautiously optimistic as Bjorkegren took the reins for his first match.
Despite a meagre turnout at Pere Jego, the home side made a rapid start, dominating possession and generating some opportunities in the first half.
Nevertheless, Morocco’s defence held firm, successfully countering all attempts from the Black Queens and maintaining a deadlock at the interval.
The balance of play tipped in favour of Ghana during the second half, where they came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock. A well-constructed move saw striker Doris Boaduwaa provide a brilliant pass to Sherifatu Sumaila, but her shot skidded wide, a pivotal missed opportunity for the hosts.

Ghana’s failure to convert that opportunity came back to haunt them late in the game, as they conceded a goal.
Sakina Ouzraoui seized upon a defensive error deep into stoppage time, capitalising on a weak clearance just outside the Ghanaian penalty area.
Her precise shot from distance eluded the grasp of Cynthia Konlan, giving Morocco the advantage.
The home side managed to maintain their lead, snatching a narrow victory from the despondent Black Queens.
With a FIFA ranking of 66th in the world and fifth in Africa, Ghana will now shift their focus to preparing for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for July 5th, 2025.
