Motorsport Australia is delighted to announce the appointment of Alan Vaughan as the new Rally Manager.
In his role as Rally Manager, Vaughan will also continue as the sporting delegate for the Australian Rally Championship. He will lead the team responsible for the strategic planning and progression of the rally discipline, alongside the ongoing management of the rally category, with support from Motorsport Australia.
This appointment underscores Motorsport Australia’s dedication to fostering the growth of rallying and enhancing entry pathways within the category.
“Establishing a well-defined pathway for the sport’s development is crucial for its ongoing health. It will enable us to boost participation across all levels, particularly among grassroots and junior competitors,” Vaughan stated.
A long-standing member of the MINI Car Club of NSW and a two-time club champion, motorsport is deeply ingrained in his life.
“I got my start in motorsport at the age of eight, when my mother, Joan Vaughan, was competing in rallies,” he shared.
“It was an honour to witness my Mum in action.”
“Having seen so much of the sport, I recognise the importance of focusing on the future. We need to cultivate pathways that help newcomers progress through the ranks.”
While Vaughan acknowledges the thrill of driving fast on closed roads, he believes that the people in the sport are its greatest asset.
“When I was away from motorsport, it was the community I missed the most,” Vaughan remarked.
“The cars serve as a means to unite a group of like-minded individuals,” he added.
Ultimately, Vaughan aims to streamline the process for individuals looking to get involved in the sport.
A recipient of the Motorsport Australia Official of the Year award in 2006, Vaughan was recognised as a Life Member of Motorsport Australia in 2016. He has held the role of State Council Chair for many years and served on the State Executive for over 25 years.
