Former West Coast Eagles great Adam Selwood has candidly shared his grief over the devastating loss of his brother Troy, as he prepares to participate in a half marathon for a meaningful cause.
Troy tragically took his own life in February at the age of 40, leaving the AFL community in disbelief.
The 40-year-old reflected on the moment he received the call from his brother, Joel, describing it as “the worst phone call imaginable.”
“We were sound asleep here in Perth, so when Joel called at that hour, you knew something was amiss,” he recounted to 9news Perth.

“There was always a lingering worry that this day might come… I was fortunate enough to have a twin brother to share my life with for 40 years.”
Now, Adam is set to participate in the HBF Run For A Reason, aiming to raise $10,000 for zero2hero, a charity dedicated to empowering youth to take charge of their mental health and prevent suicide.
Selwood remarked to 9News that running was a cherished activity he shared with his twin brother.
“We loved running together as kids; it was an integral part of our journey to becoming footballers, especially with cross country runs,” he shared.
“During our teenage years, we even joined a running club, and those are some of my happiest memories.”
In contemplating his brother’s passing, Adam believes that Troy has “already made a difference in saving lives.”
“I want to prevent others from experiencing this kind of pain if it can be avoided, and it absolutely can,” he expressed.
“He has already saved many lives, especially those who needed to voice their struggles and seek help during that time. Knowing this gives me comfort and the strength to keep going.”
