A superb strike from Jordan Larsson secured FC Copenhagen a narrow 1-0 victory away at Viborg in the first leg of their Danish Cup semifinal.
The home team started strong, while the Superliga side struggled to find their rhythm. Defensively, FC Copenhagen particularly had difficulty containing the attacking threat posed by Serginho, who consistently created opportunities for the hosts.
The 24-year-old Portuguese winger was brought down just outside the box in the 39th minute. However, Isak Jensen, just 21 years old and already boasting three direct free-kick goals this season, failed to convert the set piece.
Jensen found himself in the thick of the action again just before the half-time whistle, appealing for a penalty after being fouled near the edge of the area. Despite his protests, the referee awarded a free-kick, although Serginho’s powerful shot sailed over the bar, leaving the first 45 minutes scoreless.

Both teams had ample opportunities to score right after the break. Just two minutes in, Amin Chiakha’s close-range header at the back post was expertly blocked, and five minutes later, Diant Ramaj made an incredible save to deny Anosike Ementa when he seemed destined to score following a brilliant solo effort by Isak Jensen.
However, in the 58th minute, FC Copenhagen finally struck gold when Jordan Larsson exchanged a clever one-two with his Swedish compatriot Viktor Claesson, finishing confidently past Viborg’s goalkeeper Lucas Lund.
The 1-0 lead left Viborg at a disadvantage heading into the second leg at Parken, prompting them to push more forward in hopes of equalising. While they managed to create several scoring chances, their finishing left much to be desired, and FC Copenhagen secured a relatively stress-free 1-0 win.
The return leg will take place at Parken Stadium on 8 May, with the victor set to meet either Brøndby or Silkeborg in the final. The first semi-final between those two teams ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw in Copenhagen.
