Joshua Kimmich, the defensive midfielder for Bayern Munich, has secured a contract extension until 2029, as announced by the Bundesliga leaders on Thursday. He joins teammates Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies in committing to long-term deals.
Rumours surrounding Kimmich’s contract had been rife for weeks, given that he was a prime target for numerous top European clubs.
“At FC Bayern, I have the ideal environment to fulfil my sporting ambitions,” Kimmich stated in a press release from the club.
“This was the basis for my decision. Currently, I cannot envision a better combination of teammates, coaching staff, and club atmosphere to achieve the utmost success.”
“I truly feel at home here, and I’m far from finished.”
At 30 years of age, the versatile player joined Bayern a decade ago and is equally proficient as a full-back or in a holding midfield position. His impressive accolades include eight Bundesliga titles, a Champions League trophy, and a Club World Cup title, among others.
“Bayern requires players who not only wear the jersey but also embrace responsibility—both on and off the pitch. Joshua Kimmich is one such player,” remarked club president Herbert Hainer.
Bayern currently sits eight points clear of second-placed defending champions Bayer Leverkusen. They are also in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, set to face Inter Milan in April.
