Aleksandar Mitrovic marked his return to the field after a two-month injury absence with a crucial late goal in Al Hilal’s 2-0 victory over Al Fayha in the Saudi Pro League on Friday.
The Serbian striker, who sustained an injury during a defeat to Al Ittihad in the Saudi Cup quarter-finals in January, netted his impressive 13th goal in just 14 SPL matches.
Mohamed Kanno opened the scoring for Jorge Jesus’s men early in the match, while Mitrovic secured the win for Al Hilal with a close-range finish in the 89th minute. The goal was confirmed by VAR after review.
“The last two and a half months have been tough for me, dealing with some hamstring issues and setbacks,” Mitrovic shared with SSC Sports.
“I put in a lot of effort to return… I’m glad to be able to assist my teammates… and I’m pleased with the goal,” the 30-year-old added.
With this win, second-placed Al Hilal, now on 54 points, reduced the gap to leaders Al Ittihad to four points after Al Ittihad managed to draw 1-1 with Al Qadsiah on Thursday.
