Marseille’s Dramatic Second-Half Comeback Secures Victory Over Nantes

Marseille has extended their unbeaten streak at home in Ligue 1 to seven matches (5 wins, 2 draws) after securing a hard-fought 2-0 victory over FC Nantes, thanks to late goals from Amine Gouiri and Mason Greenwood.

Looking to recover from a heavy defeat at Auxerre the previous weekend, the Phocaeans started strongly at the Stade Vélodrome. However, they had a close-range effort from Adrien Rabiot disallowed for offside against Gouiri during the build-up.

Fortunate to escape an early setback, Nantes almost made a breakthrough themselves shortly after, as Geronimo Rulli kept the hosts level with a brilliant save from Johann Lepenant’s powerful strike.

This served as a clear warning for the home side, who finally found a breakthrough with 17 minutes remaining when Gouiri clinically slotted home from a laid-off pass by Valentin Rongier.

It didn’t take long for Marseille to secure a second goal, as Greenwood netted his 15th league goal of the season after skillfully cutting inside Nicolas Pallois and firing accurately into the far corner.

The rapid-fire goals effectively ended the contest, allowing De Zerbi’s team to maintain an impressive unbeaten run against Nantes, now 10 matches (8 wins, 2 draws).
