Amid ongoing speculation regarding his future at the Roosters, a “rip and tear” positional change could be a more beneficial path for Brandon Smith, especially with reports suggesting interest from the Super League.
Uncertainty continues to cloud Smith’s future with the Tricolours as the club gears up to welcome NSW hooker Reece Robson in 2026.
As talk intensifies, Queensland legend Corey Parker has urged the Roosters to clarify Smith’s situation amidst suggestions of his potential move to the Super League.
Smith is entering the final year of his contract while rehabilitating from an ACL and MCL injury.
Since leaving the Melbourne Storm, he has found it challenging to regain his form and consistency and was issued a breach notice last year for failing to attend a mid-season review.

Robson’s anticipated arrival at Bondi is regarded as an indication that Smith may not receive a contract extension.
Just before Robson’s transfer to the Roosters was announced in December, Smith disclosed that he had commenced pre-season training early, although he was not driven by the prospect of re-signing.
With interest from the Super League, Parker suggested that a positional change may be the key to Smith’s resurgence.
“He has the option to go overseas and potentially revive his career – I don’t think that’s the right move,” Parker stated during a segment on SENQ’s Breakfast.
“Personally, I believe he could transition to the back row as a lock.
“His greatest strength lies in his ability to be aggressive on the field. He isn’t necessarily a creator. If a creative role is what you seek, he might not fit that bill.”

“I believe Brandon Smith will remain in the NRL; there are several clubs interested in him. It’s a situation that requires close attention.”
With numerous experienced players departing during the off-season, combined with high-profile injuries, Parker emphasised that clear communication with Smith is vital to avoid leaving the club in turmoil.
“Their spine is already stretched thin, so losing Brandon Smith would leave a significant gap,” Parker said.
“If he were to leave sooner rather than later, the club would have the chance to strategise on who would fill that position.
“It would benefit both Brandon Smith and the club if there could be some clarity on these matters moving forward.”
