Western United has finalised the transfer of prominent forward Kahli Johnson to Canadian side Calgary Wild for an undisclosed fee.
This marks a historic moment for Western, as it is the first time the club will receive a transfer fee for a player from the Ninja A-League, attributed to Johnson’s impressive performances as a contender for the Ninja A-League Golden Boot.
The 21-year-old is set to make her final appearance for Western this weekend in a thrilling clash against fierce rivals Melbourne Victory on Saturday, before heading to Calgary to join them for their debut season in the newly established Northern Super League, which is Canada’s first professional women’s football competition.

“I’m deeply appreciative of my time here and have made some wonderful memories, but I can’t help feeling a bit sad about leaving mid-season,” Johnson remarked, having recorded a personal best of eight goals in the 2024-25 season.
“I’m extremely excited for this new chapter. I believe my journey at Western has prepared me well for this next step, and I’m eager to develop as a player and a person.
“I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the fans who have followed and supported Western during my tenure. They have been phenomenal and played a crucial role in our team’s achievements over the past three years. I hope to have the chance to say goodbye on Saturday.”

Since her arrival as part of Western’s inaugural Ninja A-League roster in 2022, Johnson has thrived, netting 13 goals across 47 league games.
Additionally, she has proudly represented Australia at two FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cups.
In Calgary, Johnson will reunite with familiar faces, including former Western teammate and Philippines international Jaclyn Sawicki, as well as ex-Sydney FC defender Ally Green.
“Kahli has emerged as one of the standout success stories from our Ninja A-League programme, and we couldn’t be more thrilled for her as she embraces this remarkable opportunity,” commented Mal Impiombato, Western’s general manager of football.
“Beyond her talent and impact on the field, Kahli has been a cherished member of our family, significantly contributing to the legacy we’re building at our club.
“We firmly believe that Kahli’s future holds limitless potential, and we eagerly anticipate supporting her from afar as she pursues her ambitions.”
“On behalf of everyone at Western United, I extend my congratulations to Kahli for her time with us and wish her all the best for the future.”
