Ipswich Town’s manager, Kieran McKenna, has shared his thoughts during his recent press conference as the team gears up for their match against Manchester United on Wednesday night.
Currently, Ipswich occupies the 18th position in the Premier League standings. Following a heavy 4-1 defeat to Tottenham at the weekend, their status in the relegation zone remains secure for another week, even if they were to secure a win against a struggling United outfit.
Despite the setback, McKenna emphasised his readiness for the upcoming match against manager Ruben Amorim, indicating that his players are prepared to put up a fight.
“It’s been okay. I didn’t feel the weight of it. We’re not going to be celebrating after losing at home, but we were on the wrong end of a tough scoreline.
“The way the game concluded was disappointing, but we’ve taken many positives from it.
“Now we’re focusing on a significant game on Wednesday. There’s a fantastic energy at the training ground, and everyone is genuinely excited. This is definitely the highlight of the calendar.
“For some of our players, it will be their first time playing at Old Trafford.”
Manchester United has only managed to win one of their past five Premier League matches, and McKenna conveyed the enthusiasm of his squad as they prepare to visit Old Trafford, a venue where many teams have earned vital points this season.
“It’s a quick turnaround, and there’s a lot to be worked on in the coming days, but everyone is incredibly eager.
“Competing there in a league match is a fantastic opportunity for our football club, the players, and our staff.
“It’s a stadium where many of us grew up watching football and found inspiration. We want our players to feel nothing but excitement and positivity towards the fixture.
“Naturally, it’s a tough challenge, and we need to prepare for that, but the predominant emotion in the camp is one of excitement.”

McKenna mentioned that the substitutions of Kalvin Phillips and Jens Cajuste due to injuries against Spurs was a “blow,” but Conor Chaplin is “making good progress,” and Julio Enciso is “continuing to work with the physios,” although there’s “no substantial change” in their potential return dates.
He also noted that Ben Godfrey “trained well today and came in with a positive attitude,” suggesting that he could potentially feature prominently in this week’s game.
