Australian captain Pat Cummins maintains that the rivalry with India has not eclipsed the Ashes, even after the recent achievements in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
During a memorable summer at home, Australia staged a remarkable comeback from losing the opening match to win the series against India 3-1.
This victory ended Rohit Sharma’s team’s decade-long dominance over the Australians and captivated fans across the nation.
Some have suggested that the rivalry between Australia and India has now overtaken the storied Test series with England in prestige; however, Cummins firmly disagrees.

Reflecting on that summer, Cummins told SEN radio, “It was a fantastic season that will stay in my memory for a long time.”
“When it comes to competitiveness, India has triumphed in the past two series on our soil, while we have maintained a stronghold against England at home.”
“This summer certainly felt like a contest between the top two ranked Test teams. In that light, it appeared larger than usual.”
“However, losing an Ashes series at home feels catastrophic.”
“In that regard, the Ashes still hold more significance.”
Cummins played a pivotal role in guiding Australia to reinforce their position as the number one ranked Test side, securing a place in the World Test Championship final later this year against South Africa.
The 31-year-old missed the recent tour of Sri Lanka for the arrival of his child and was later sidelined from the ICC Champions Trophy due to injury.
