Central Coast Mariners’ head coach, Mark Jackson, has lauded Haine Eames, elaborating on the ground-breaking decision to appoint the teenage talent as captain during the AFC Champions League Elite.
The two-time defending champions, the Mariners, are preparing for their Isuzu UTE A-League clash against the Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday, following the conclusion of their ACL Elite campaign earlier this week.

“This wasn’t just a symbolic gesture; it was something he earned,” Jackson stated to media in anticipation of the upcoming encounter against the Wanderers in Gosford.
“Haine not only shows great potential but is currently performing exceptionally well and is truly shining within the squad.
“Leadership isn’t solely about who is the loudest or most talkative; it’s about setting an example. Haine embodies that, and so does Steeley.”

Although the Mariners exited the ACL Elite without securing a victory, the experience was invaluable for Jackson’s youthful squad.
The average age of Central Coast’s starting lineup against Frontale was just over 21, and Jackson is optimistic that this Asian venture will benefit the team’s aspirations of reaching the A-League finals, with the Mariners currently positioned ninth, four points off the top six.

“We’ve gained a lot from this experience, particularly for our younger players,” he shared.
“In the match against Kawasaki, the starting XI averaged a little over 21 years of age. It was a proud moment for Harry Steele—a local lad—who rightfully led the team out with the armband.
“We’re thrilled about the insights gained from this competition that will undoubtedly benefit our players moving forward, especially with the nine A-League fixtures on the horizon.”
“Our focus is on nurturing young talent and providing them with the opportunity to learn and grow.”
