“He played a crucial role” | Glory signing Amos highlights the key figures behind his transition from the UK
Luk Amos, the latest signing for Perth Glory, is determined to make an immediate impact at his new club as he prepares for a potential Isuzu UTE A-League debut against Sydney FC on Saturday evening.
Amos joined Glory during the mid-season transfer window after moving from Scottish Premiership team Hibernian. Prior to that, he spent over a decade at Tottenham Hotspur, along with stints at Queens Park Rangers and Hibs.
While at Hibernian, the 27-year-old midfielder was briefly mentored by Nick Montgomery, a legendary figure at Central Coast Mariners, who played an instrumental role in facilitating Amos’s move to Perth.
Throughout his career, Amos has faced setbacks including two anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, which hindered his ability to secure a starting position at Hibernian during the initial months of a one-and-a-half-year contract.
Now fully fit and ready to showcase his talents with Glory, Amos took a moment to express his gratitude to his former manager Montgomery for aiding his transition to the western Australian side, especially as he gears up for a potential game against the Sky Blues.
“When he was my manager, we discussed the growing game in Australia. I told him that I’d love to play there one day,” said Amos.
“He was vital in making this move happen. He had wonderful things to say about me when Stan and the gaffer sought a reference, and I can’t thank him enough.”
“I may not have known him for long, but his influence has been significant in my growth as both a player and a person. He has helped pave the way for this opportunity, so I owe him a great deal.”

During his time at Hibs, Amos had the opportunity to play alongside former Sydney FC striker Adam Le Fondre and four Australians – Martin Boyle, Jack Iredale, Nectar Triantis, and Lewis Miller – who played a part in convincing him to take the plunge into the Isuzu UTE A-League.
“My stint in Scotland was quite challenging due to limited game time, so I was actively looking for a new opportunity to get back on the pitch,” Amos reflected.
“Several teammates spoke highly of the A-League and its growth, which excited me. When I spoke with Stan (Lazaridis) and the Gaffer (Zdrilic), they reinforced that positive outlook.”
“This is an opportunity for me to play football—and that’s my primary goal.”
“Many of the players in the Hibs squad have roots in the A-League, and their quality immediately stood out to me. I could see that there are talented players in this league.”
“Although it might not receive extensive coverage in the UK, those who have mentioned the A-League spoke of its expanding reputation and enhancing quality.”
“Numerous people talked about how the A-League is evolving and improving, and that’s something I was keen to be part of.”
Amos has earned a spot in Zdrilic’s extended squad for Saturday’s fixture against Sydney FC, joining midfielder Nicholas Pennington and young winger Khoa Ngo as newcomers in the squad.
Patrick Wood, on the other hand, will miss Perth’s match this weekend as a result of loan conditions from his transfer from the Sky Blues to Glory.
“I feel as if I’ve been working towards this opportunity for a considerable time,” Amos stated.
“Even though I didn’t feature much at Hibs, I made sure to stay fit by doing extra gym sessions and running. I feel prepared, and I hope to take to the field this weekend and demonstrate my abilities to the fans.”
“It’ll be wonderful just to play some football again. I’m keen to get out there, secure a win, and enjoy the sunshine!”
