With five goals in just eight games for the A-League this season, Jets forward Lachie Rose is undoubtedly making a case for one of the signings of the season.
After recovering from a groin injury that sidelined him for eight of the club’s first nine league encounters, the 25-year-old has quickly adapted to life in Newcastle. Partnering with Japanese arrival Kota Mizunuma, he is driving Rob Stanton’s team up the league ladder.
So, where does this impressive form stem from, and who is instrumental in helping the former Bulls forward shine?
Tommy Oar, a former Socceroos winger and teammate of Rose at Macarthur FC, shared insights about the forward’s swift return to his best on Total A-Leagues.
“Lachie Rose is clever; he understands that as soon as Kota Mizunuma gets the ball, he will aim to cross it at the earliest opportunity, and Lachie makes his run accordingly, anticipating that play,” Oar noted.

“Their partnership is proving to be quite fruitful.”
As for Mizunuma, his statistics are nothing short of dazzling, evidently benefiting the player now spearheading the Jets’ attack.

Since his debut, the former Yokohama F. Marinos winger has conjured up 13 chances, with only Macarthur’s Marin Jakolis (14) surpassing that tally, and the synergy with Rose seems to be strengthening week by week.
Despite primarily coming off the bench, Mizunuma has notched up three assists in his time with the Jets, with two of those directly benefiting Rose in matches against Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United.
“I believe this partnership has played a crucial role in Newcastle’s resurgence,” Oar commented.
“One characteristic you can always associate with Lachie Rose is his relentless enthusiasm. He’s constantly looking to make runs behind defenders, exuding high energy. Early on, particularly during his breakthrough at Macarthur, there were moments where his energy perhaps wasn’t utilised correctly.

“He might have picked the wrong run at times. However, he has significantly matured, and despite any initial struggles, he has always possessed that innate ability to find the back of the net.”
“Lachie has an instinct for positioning, knowing where the ball will land, even in tight scrambles in the box.”
“He possesses an ability akin to Tim Cahill’s, always being in the right place at the right time. Frankly, seeing him score these goals doesn’t surprise me at all.”
Rose and Mizunuma will be eager to maintain their exhilarating form this Friday night when the Jets take on Brisbane Roar at McDonald Jones Stadium.
Seated at 11th on the ladder, a victory for Newcastle would elevate them to ninth place, pushing out their rivals Central Coast and bringing them within just four points of the top six.
