Aston Villa’s streak without a win in the Premier League extended to four matches as they were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Ipswich Town, who managed to break a sequence of four consecutive league losses, bringing themselves two points closer to safety.
With Chelsea already suffering a defeat, Villa had an opportunity to narrow the gap to the league’s top six. However, the hosts had a sluggish start to the match, with the tempo hampered by early injuries to Boubacar Kamara and Julio Enciso, both of whom were substituted just 15 minutes in.
Frustration began to mount around Villa Park as Unai Emery’s side found it increasingly difficult to penetrate the Ipswich defence. Even when they did find a way through, Ollie Watkins was only able to steer a shot wide after being set up by Axel Disasi.
The Tractor Boys appeared to be comfortable for much of the first half, but their fortunes took a turn when former Villa defender Axel Tuanzebe was sent off, receiving a second yellow card for bringing down Jacob Ramsey just outside the box.

Securing a 0-0 scoreline at half-time was crucial for Kieran McKenna’s team, aided significantly by a fantastic save from Alex Palmer, who stopped a close-range attempt from Morgan Rogers.
Emery brought on Marcus Rashford for his Premier League debut for Villa at the start of the second half, aiming to take advantage of their extra man. Rashford made an immediate impact with a dangerous curling shot that Palmer managed to deflect away from goal.
However, against the run of play, Ipswich’s Liam Delap found the back of the net, expertly curling a shot into the far corner from Omari Hutchinson’s cutback, marking his third goal in this season’s encounters between the two sides.
The Villa Park crowd fell silent in disbelief, but the home side regained their focus and equalised just 13 minutes later through Ollie Watkins, who slotted home the rebound following a Rashford free-kick.
Ipswich’s goal was suddenly under siege, as Villa substitute Marco Asensio squandered a massive opportunity to put his side ahead by firing over from inside the box.
Palmer denied the Spaniard again moments later, but as the match drew to a close, Emery’s team began to lose steam and ultimately missed out on claiming victory.
Consequently, Villa remain in ninth place, five points adrift of the top six, while Ipswich secured a valuable point— their tenth of the season away from home—in their quest for survival in the top flight.
