The squads are confirmed ahead of Round 19 in the Isuzu UTE A-League.
The Wellington Phoenix have received a significant boost with captain Alex Rufer set to travel with the team to Melbourne for their clash against Melbourne Victory on Friday night at AAMI Park.
After being sidelined since December due to glandular fever, the central midfielder is expected to make an appearance in tomorrow’s match, as Phoenix head coach Giancarlo Italiano has indicated that the New Zealand international is progressing well.
“He will be part of the squad,” Italiano stated. “He has made good progress, and we intend for him to travel.
“He will definitely have a role to play in tomorrow’s game. If he’s travelling, it means he will be involved.
“His recovery has been ahead of schedule, which is promising. He has completed two solid weeks of training.”
In other news, several new signings around the league could make their debuts, with the Macarthur Bulls including Tunisia international Saîf-Eddine Khaoui following his move to Campbelltown. Former Newcastle Jets defender Lachlan Jackson is in line for his debut with the Victory, while Takuya Okamoto from Japan has been named in Perth Glory’s extended squad, potentially making his debut against Melbourne City.
Auckland FC midfielder Louis Verstraete is ruled out after accumulating his fifth yellow card of the season, along with Western United’s Angus Thurgate. Macarthur captain Valère Germain will also miss the trip to face the Wanderers due to a two-game suspension.
