Melbourne City goalkeeper Jamie Young has confirmed his retirement from professional football, effective immediately.
Young concludes his career after making 228 appearances in the Isuzu UTE A-League during his time with City, Western United, and Brisbane Roar.
At 39 years old, Young joined City in 2023, where he played every minute last season, achieving 12 clean sheets. This season, he has taken on the role of mentor to the new first-choice goalkeeper, Patrick Beach.

Young departs the game with a Championship title from his time at Western United and was named Goalkeeper of the Year for the 2017-18 season, along with three selections in the PFA A-League Men Team of the Season.
“I’ve had the privilege of playing football for the last 24 years, and I’m grateful to finish my career at Melbourne City, the finest club in Australia,” Young expressed.
“I’ve fought as long as I could play, and I believe now is the right time to retire. I’ve truly enjoyed playing football and I’ve had the honour of competing around the globe and meeting some remarkable people.”
“I look forward to watching the A-League develop from a distance. I’m thankful to Melbourne City and proud to have represented the club, just as I did with Brisbane Roar and Western United.”

After spending 11 years in the UK with clubs like Reading, Rushden & Diamonds, Wycombe Wanderers, Aldershot Town, Basingstoke Town, Whitehawk, and Hayes & Yeading United, Young made his return to Australia with Brisbane Roar.
Young established himself as Roar’s main goalkeeper from 2014-2021 before transferring to Western United in 2021, where he clinched the 2022 Championship during his two years with the Green and Black.
