Brian Priske, the manager of Feyenoord, is determined to challenge league leaders PSV as they prepare for their upcoming KNVB Cup quarter-final next week.
Feyenoord’s recent defeat in the Klassieker against Ajax was a bitter pill to swallow, with Kenneth Taylor netting a last-gasp winner in the 94th minute. While both teams struggled to create opportunities, the home side managed to extend their lead to 12 points over their fierce rivals.
Despite the significant gap in the standings, Priske insists that he and his squad will not be swayed by the current league position.
“I’m not worried about the league table,” stated the Dane following the loss. “I observed a fighting spirit in my players, who gave their all to secure points, but it just didn’t go our way.”

“We conceded goals far too easily. Feyenoord must improve,” Priske added.
Following a string of disappointing outcomes, including a heavy 6-1 defeat to Lille in last Wednesday’s Champions League clash, Priske has faced increased scrutiny.
With only days remaining before their pivotal cup match against PSV, he is eager for a significant turnaround.
“We intend to claim victory in Eindhoven. That’s where my focus lies,” he declared.
Return of the ‘Sour’ Captain
Quinten Timber, Feyenoord’s captain, returned for the derby after missing all matches of 2023 thus far. The 23-year-old midfielder marked his comeback with an equaliser, but the joy was short-lived.
“I’m left with a sour feeling,” Timber expressed. “It’s clear that improvements are needed at Feyenoord. A lot has transpired in the past month.”

The captain emphasised that some difficult discussions were held following their second defeat to Ajax this season, although he refrained from detailing the specifics.
“That’s not something meant for public discussion,” he remarked.
