Michael Nees, head coach of Zimbabwe, has lauded the exceptional performances of Jordan Zemura at Udinese this season.
The former Bournemouth left-back has emerged as a vital contributor for the Serie A club as they strive for European qualification in the upcoming season.
In total, the Warriors star has played 21 matches across all competitions for Kosta Runjaic’s Little Zebras, celebrating a goal against Lecce.
Nees expressed his satisfaction with Zemura’s contributions thus far for the Italian top-flight team and is hopeful that he will maintain this form heading into next month’s international fixtures.
“His performances at Udinese have caught the attention of a few clubs, but I believe he’s in a good place there,” he remarked.
“He’s also been performing exceptionally well for the national team, and we have several other players showing great form too.”
“Overall, we’re very pleased with his progress and are hopeful it continues, especially with the international matches approaching in March.”
After his contract with Bournemouth expired, Zemura signed a four-year deal with Udinese on a free transfer.
Despite interest from various clubs across Europe and beyond, Zimbabwe’s head coach believes that Bluenergy Stadium is the ideal environment for Zemura to thrive.
Nees added: “I want him to find joy in his club and perform well.”
“As a national coach, I feel fulfilled when he is getting regular playtime at his club.”

Nees took over as Zimbabwe’s head coach in July 2024, succeeding local manager Jairos Tapera.
At 57, he brings a wealth of experience in African football, having previously managed Seychelles and Rwanda while also serving as a technical advisor for South Africa.
With faith in his credentials, Nees is keen to steer Zimbabwe to a successful campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where they will encounter Egypt, South Africa, and Angola in Group B.
He remarked: “My experience spans several countries, and I believe my diverse background equips me for this role.”
“Football isn’t solely shaped by what happens on the training pitch; numerous factors come into play, particularly as a national coach, and I believe I bring a broad range of experience to the table.”
“I’ve held various positions in different tournaments, which has given me insight into the various elements influencing performance.”
“Honestly, I expect this AFCON will be very well-organised and fair.”
“We have around 11 months to prepare, and we will plan meticulously, striving for our best outcome. We’ll see how it turns out.”
“Above all, I trust in our team and our players, though we’ll certainly respect our rivals.”
Regarding the nation’s readiness for Morocco 2025, he said: “We’re in the midst of development. I’ve been here for six months, and we are still making strides.”
“There’s significant potential for improvement, and while we’ve had a solid performance so far, which is evident from our qualification, we can be proud of our progress.”
“With the AFCON still months away, there’s plenty of time. Our preparations encompass both organisational and tactical dimensions.”
“On the organisational side, we have a distinct advantage, as everything is well-prepared, including team accommodations and training camps, so there’s not too much we can influence in that respect.”
The Warriors were unable to compete in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Côte d’Ivoire following a FIFA suspension. Despite this setback, they have qualified for the finals on five occasions but have yet to break through to the knockout stages.
