The remarkable AFL journey of West Coast defender Jeremy McGovern is set to extend into a 16th season, as he has secured a one-year contract extension.
The Eagles announced the news on Monday, just over a month ahead of the club’s first game of the season against the Gold Coast Suns in Perth, confirming McGovern’s commitment through to 2026.
The AFL premiership-winning player will celebrate his 34th birthday during the 2026 season.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to recommit to the club and am grateful for the chance to continue doing what I love for another year,” McGovern expressed.
“The club is entering an exciting phase with a talented young group, and I feel it’s my duty to guide this young squad both on and off the field, just as my senior teammates did for me when I started my career all those years ago.”
“I will forever be thankful for the outstanding senior players who influenced my career, and I hope to have a similar impact on this up-and-coming talent.”

Last season, McGovern made a strong comeback from an injury-plagued year, earning his fifth All-Australian blazer and being honoured with his first best and fairest award at the club.
He is anticipated to mark his 200th AFL match when West Coast faces Richmond at the MCG in round nine.
Only nine games shy of becoming the 29th player in Eagles history to reach the 200-game milestone, McGovern is nearing this significant achievement.
West Coast’s football chief Gavin Bell hailed McGovern as a “legacy player” for the Eagles, noting that he is an “incredible leader” for the younger players in the club.
