The world’s finest horse delivered yet another stunning performance, with Via Sistina powering to victory in the $3 million TAB Champions Stakes.
Following one of the most remarkable Cox Plate victories in recent memory last month, the champion mare surged ahead at Flemington once again.
The six-year-old’s triumph was never in question, marking jockey James McDonald’s 11th win during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

“That was fantastic,” he exclaimed to Billy Slater post-race on Nine.
“Everything unfolded perfectly as planned. The horse gave me a smooth ride. When I reached the 600m and 400m marks, it felt like I was just shifting gears, and she handled it effortlessly.”

Chris Waller’s other contender in the race, Atishu, finished in second place, contrasting with her own victory in the same event one year prior over 1600m.
Without A Fight, last year’s Melbourne Cup champion, put in a commendable performance, securing third place.
