Michael Cheika is in contention for a potential return as the Wallabies coach following a recent meeting with Rugby Australia officials.
As reported by The Sydney Morning Herald, the former head coach met with CEO Phil Waugh as discussions intensify regarding Joe Schmidt’s successor.
Schmidt announced earlier this month that he would step down from his role at the conclusion of the Rugby Championship, prompting decision-makers to initiate the search for a new coach who can lead the green and gold into the 2027 World Cup on home turf.
Cheika was seen with Waugh in North Sydney on Tuesday, and sources suggest he may be amenable to another term at the helm of the national team.

The 57-year-old previously guided the Wallabies to the final of the 2015 World Cup before being let go in 2019 and subsequently taking a role with Argentina.
Currently coaching overseas at Leicester Tigers, Cheika has confirmed he will not continue with the English club beyond this season.
Other potential candidates for the Wallabies coaching position include Les Kiss from Queensland, Dan McKellar from the Waratahs, and Stephen Larkham from the Brumbies.
Rugby Australia has initiated discussions with all three coaches, who are contracted until 2026.
