Matt Renshaw’s impressive second century of the Sheffield Shield season has shifted the focus onto Sam Konstas as New South Wales embarks on a tense pursuit against Queensland.
Having been recalled to the Shield after his stint with the Sri Lankan Test squad, Konstas made his debut at the Gabba but struggled in the first innings, managing just 3 runs. He now faces a daunting task as NSW requires an additional 407 runs to clinch victory.
Renshaw was the standout performer for his team on day three, remaining unbeaten on 125 when Queensland declared at 3-289, presenting NSW with a hefty target of 418 runs.
In the earlier stages of the match, Queensland’s Jack Clayton scored a magnificent 134 in the first innings, while NSW’s captain Jack Edwards responded with a solid 108. Bowling for Queensland, Xavier Bartlett took 4-54, with Michael Neser contributing 3-23 to the tally.

Renshaw continued to impress, remaining at the crease while Clayton had made 76 before leaving the field with a hamstring injury.
Renshaw’s first century of the Shield season came in mid-November, when he scored 121 against Tasmania.
“I’ve built a strong momentum over the last couple of Shield games after that initial century,” Renshaw told AAP. “I really focused on maintaining it, keeping things straightforward today.”
NSW’s innings got off to a dreadful start, with Nic Maddinson dismissed for a duck after just three balls, bowled by Neser.
At present, Konstas is unbeaten on 9, while Ross Pawson has contributed just 1. NSW sits at 1-11 after 8 overs.
“I have faith in our bowlers to deliver,” Renshaw commented. “Whether it happens at 5pm or 3pm, I believe they’ll get the job done.”
For the season, Renshaw has accumulated 440 runs at an average of 36.66, while Jake Weatherald tops the charts with 620 runs at an average of 51.66.
