Bianca Galic, the vice-captain of Central Coast Mariners, has been included in Croatia’s 24-player squad that will commence their UEFA Women’s Nations League campaign in February.
The Australian-born midfielder had her inaugural appearances for the national team in October, tallying two caps so far. Now, she has the opportunity to expand her international experience as Croatia takes on Czechia and Ukraine in their initial matches in League B of the continental competition.
Croatia has been drawn in Group B4, alongside Czechia, Ukraine, and Albania, and is focused on securing a top-two finish in their group to achieve promotion to League A. Securing the top position in Group B4 will guarantee automatic promotion, while a second-place finish will lead to a chance in the promotion play-offs.

In December, Galic shared her thoughts with aleagues.com.au regarding her decision to represent Croatia after realising her aspirations of becoming a CommBank Matilda might not materialise.
“It was a huge dream for me to don the Matildas jersey,” Galic stated.
“But I hadn’t been included in the system and wasn’t particularly regarded as someone in the extended squad, so I had to consider what was feasible.”
“If I turned down the opportunity to play for the Croatian national team, would I get another chance?”
“In March of this year, I was reached out to by the Croatian Football Federation, who connected me with the national team manager. They called to find out how I was feeling and whether I still had an interest in representing Australia.”
“They had reviewed my background and watched some clips, wanting to explore my interest in pursuing a pathway within the Croatian system.”
“Considering my background, I had not been involved with the Junior Matildas, Young Matildas, or any development teams. I felt as though I was flying under the radar, not being selected for any Matildas squads.”
“At 25, I needed to determine if I was being considered in the Australian setup and if another opportunity would arise.”
