Sam Clipperton, the jockey who triumphed in the Everest, has declared his retirement at the young age of 30.
The accomplished rider, who bagged five Group 1 titles throughout his riding career, took to social media on Sunday evening to announce his departure from the sport.
“Today marks my final day as a professional jockey,” he shared on Instagram.
“This decision has been made with the utmost consideration. After 15 years in the saddle, the time has come for me to pursue new ambitions, and I am looking forward to what lies ahead.”
“I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported me throughout my journey.”
Clipperton began his professional riding career in 2010 and was named champion NSW apprentice for both the 2012/13 and 2013/14 racing seasons.
His career also saw him compete overseas in Hong Kong before returning to Australia, where he found significant success.

One of his standout achievements was his ride in the 2023 Everest, where he guided the Joseph Pride-trained Think About It to a stunning victory in the prestigious $20 million event.
Following his announcement, Clipperton was met with heartfelt messages from colleagues, concluding a career that amassed over 650 race wins.
“I’m really going to miss you in the room, mate, but I’m also excited to see you succeed in your new pursuits! Much love, my brother,” Tommy Berry remarked on Instagram.
