GWS defender Connor Idun has secured a six-year extension, positioning himself among the longest contracted players in the AFL.
Initially committed to the Giants until the conclusion of 2026, the 24-year-old has now extended his ties with the Sydney club until 2032.
This new agreement makes him one of just six AFL players locked in until 2032, joining GWS teammate Sam Taylor, Port Adelaide captain Connor Rozee, St Kilda’s Max King, Richmond’s Noah Balta, and Aaron Naughton from the Western Bulldogs.
Fremantle’s Hayden Young holds the record for the longest contract in the league, having signed with the Dockers until 2033 during the pre-season.
Gold Coast’s Mac Andrew is also secured until 2030, with a potential clause that may extend his deal through to 2034.
Idun’s new contract comes just three days after it was reported by 9News’ Tom Morris that GWS midfielder Finn Callaghan has also signed a new four-year deal, keeping him with the club until 2029.

“It’s incredibly exciting to see Connor make such a long-term commitment to the club,” remarked GWS football boss Jason McCartney.
“He is an outstanding young player and leader who has shown consistent improvement each year. At just 24, the best is clearly yet to come for him.
“Connor has established himself as one of our most dependable and consistent performers, and he offers excellent flexibility within our defence. After having a career-best season, we are eager to see what he can deliver not just this year, but for many years to come.”
Idun is part of the Giants’ leadership group, which features captain Toby Greene, vice-captains Stephen Coniglio and Josh Kelly, alongside Taylor, Tom Green, Brent Daniels, and Jack Buckley.
“We’ve cultivated an incredible club culture that our players genuinely appreciate, and Connor’s continued commitment, in addition to Finn Callaghan’s recent signing, showcases the fantastic atmosphere we have at the Giants,” McCartney added.
Born in London to a Ghanaian father and an Australian mother, Idun made the move to Australia as a young child.
Since being drafted by the Giants in 2018, he has played 93 AFL matches.
The Giants will kick off their premiership campaign with a clash against Collingwood at Sydney Olympic Park on March 9.
