Billy Slater has highlighted the importance of Mitchell Moses securing a long-term contract to remain with the Parramatta Eels, contending that this move will inspire rival players to consider joining the club.
Last week, one of the premier halfbacks in the NRL extended his tenure with the Eels for another five years, providing a significant boost just ahead of the 2025 season.
As a result, Moses is now poised to potentially conclude his career in the club’s iconic blue and gold colours, while head coach Jason Ryles is already making an impact in terms of recruitment and retention.
During his appearance on Nine’s The Billy Slater Podcast this week, the Maroons coach backed Ryles’ early initiatives, noting how Moses’ commitment could attract future talent available in the market.

“It’s beneficial for the club,” Slater remarked.
“Jason Ryles is a knowledgeable individual; he understands the landscape well. Having played alongside him and experienced his coaching, I recognise that his strategy at Parramatta will take a long-term view.”
“For a player like Mitchell Moses to pledge his future to the club is fantastic for those wanting to join and play with him. He ranks among the elite halfbacks in our sport, providing a solid foundation to build a team around.”

“This will attract players eager to join for their fair value, rather than merely for more cash, to play alongside quality athletes like Mitchell.
“It’s a wise decision from Jason Ryles and the Eels, as he will undoubtedly be instrumental in advancing this team. If they aim to clinch a premiership in the next five years, Mitchell Moses will play a pivotal role in that journey.”
The announcement of Moses’ new contract coincides with Parramatta’s efforts to retain their other playmaker, Dylan Brown, who has attracted considerable interest from other clubs.
The 24-year-old has recently been linked to the Knights and Dolphins and, due to an option in his contract, he might leave the Eels in 2026.

Currently, Brown has not publicly confirmed his departure from the club where he has spent his entire career, and Eels officials remain hopeful of retaining him.
The Eels will kick off their campaign against the premiership favourites, Melbourne, this Sunday.
