Dybala’s Penalty Secures Narrow Victory for Roma in Wet Encounter Against Venezia

AS Roma maintained their unbeaten run in Serie A, extending it to eight matches with a solid 1-0 win over Venezia at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo, marking their second consecutive away victory.

The teams entered this match on contrasting paths, with Venezia languishing in 19th place and struggling for form with six games without a win. Meanwhile, the Giallorossi sought to continue their unbeaten streak and move closer to a top-six finish.

Roma quickly applied pressure, nearly scoring around the 30-minute mark.

Gianluca Mancini came close when his close-range shot was heroically cleared off the line by Hans Nicolussi Caviglia, marking the first real chance of the match. Moments later, goalkeeper Ionut Radu was forced to tip Artem Dovbyk’s powerful header over the bar at the far post.

The breakthrough finally came for Roma ten minutes into the second half when Alessandro Marcandalli fouled Angelino in the penalty area. Paulo Dybala confidently converted the penalty, powering his shot into the bottom right corner, which placed Claudio Ranieri’s side in a commanding position.

With only one clean sheet at Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo, Venezia now face a daunting challenge to overcome their relegation struggles.

Roma, on the other hand, showed no signs of relinquishing their lead, securing all three points to reduce the gap to sixth-placed Lazio to eight points.

Eusebio Di Francesco is yet to witness a victory since his side last triumphed against Cagliari with a score of 2-1. Currently, they remain winless over seven games and sit five points adrift of safety, positioned between Parma and Monza at the bottom of the Serie A table.

For the Giallorossi, this victory comes as a much-needed boost following their exit from the Coppa Italia at the hands of AC Milan.
