In a significant shift just one week prior to the resumption of the Danish Superliga, Vejle BK has parted ways with Romanian head coach Mihai Teja and his coaching staff.
Steffen Kielstrup, a club legend, will take over the coaching responsibilities alongside Johnny Mølby for the upcoming spring season.
This information was officially unveiled in a club statement on Sunday morning.
This decision marks the second time this season Vejle Boldklub has dismissed their head coach; Ivan Prelec opened the season in the role but was let go in September, paving the way for Mihai Teja to step in.
The 46-year-old Teja managed the team through eight matches, during which Vejle, currently languishing at the bottom of the 3F Superligaen, secured only a single victory.
Teja’s departure comes on the heels of the club terminating the contract of sporting director Marius Adrian Nicolae just a week prior, with the transfer window only three days from closing.
Henrik Tønder, the club director who has temporarily assumed the responsibilities of Sports Director, stated that the coaching change was essential, despite its unexpected nature for many in the industry.
“I believe that this decision will better prepare us as a club for both the short and long term,” Tønder commented on the club’s website.
“I take full responsibility for this choice. I cannot continue with a structure I lack confidence in, simply because it might lead to disturbances outside the club.”
Heading into the season restart, Vejle finds themselves at the bottom of the Danish Superliga, having accumulated a mere six points from 17 matches. They will kick off the second half of the season with an away fixture against Silkeborg next Sunday.
