Bournemouth maintained their quest for European football by securing their inaugural Premier League (PL) double over bottom-dwelling Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium.
The Saints were eager to claim back-to-back PL victories for the first time since February 2022, but their hopes were dashed when the Cherries swiftly netted two goals, putting them in command.
The first significant threat from the visitors materialised in the 14th minute, and they swiftly turned that into a goal as Ryan Christie unlocked the Southampton defence with a brilliant angled ball, allowing Dango Ouattara to nod it home.

Just two minutes later, Christie struck again, as Southampton’s defence appeared complacent, allowing the Scottish international to seize the moment from outside the area, firing in a precise left-footed shot.
With a comfortable two-goal lead, Bournemouth managed the first half with relative ease, while Southampton’s woes threatened to escalate as the break approached.
Antoine Semenyo threaded his way into the box, but Aaron Ramsdale was on hand to block Ouattara’s attempt from a tight angle.
Semenyo continued to cause problems for the Southampton defence in the second half, weaving through defenders, yet Ramsdale was again equal to the task, denying his shot.
Shortly after, the Saints’ keeper was required to rescue his team once more, palming away a close-range header from Christie just before it crossed the line.
In a surprising turn of events, Southampton managed to reduce the deficit as the match approached the final moments.
After being under pressure for most of the match, Southampton’s perseverance paid off when Kamaldeen Sulemana rifled through to score, reigniting their hopes.

Yet, after Kyle Walker-Peters nearly inadvertently restored Bournemouth’s two-goal cushion with a back-header that almost went over Ramsdale, substitute Marcus Tavernier sealed Bournemouth’s fate by cutting onto his left foot and smashing in a powerful finish for their third goal.
This outcome subjects Southampton to a damaging seventh consecutive PL defeat at home, while Andoni Iraola’s side continues to chase a European berth, extending their record unbeaten run away from home in the PL to seven matches.
