Australia has secured victory in their opening Davis Cup clash, triumphing 3-1 against Sweden in Stockholm.
The Aussies got off to an excellent start on Saturday morning (AEDT), with Alex de Minaur and Aleksandar Vukic winning both of their singles matches. John Peers and Matt Ebden then confirmed the win by outplaying Filip Bergevi and Andre Goransson in the doubles match with scores of 6-7 (7), 6-3, 6-2.
This was the first time the duo had partnered since their gold medal win at the Paris 2024 Olympics and only the second occasion they have played together in the Davis Cup.

Australia will face either Belgium or Chile in their next qualifying round, which will be determined by the outcome of that tie on Sunday night (AEDT). This will mark the first time since 2022 that the Aussies will compete in a Davis Cup match on home turf.
“Both Belgium and Chile are formidable opponents, so we’ll keep an eye on that tie. The key thing is that we fought together as a team to secure a home tie in September,” Ebden said.
“This will be our first home match in Australia in at least three years, so this victory was for the team and to bring a home tie back to Australia.”

On Sunday morning (AEDT), Rune paired with Johannes Ingildsen to conquer Kecmanovic and Medjedovic 6-4, 6-4, before Rune and Moeller secured the victory in their reverse singles matches.
