Manchester United’s manager, Ruben Amorim (40), has addressed the media in a recent press conference as they prepare for their upcoming match against Ipswich Town on Wednesday.
Amorim finds himself under scrutiny once more following a disappointing 2-2 draw with Everton over the weekend, where his team managed to stage a comeback in the second half.
The clash against Ipswich could present an excellent opportunity to shift the momentum this season, particularly as their last Premier League victory was in December, which could instil significant confidence in his squad.
During the press conference, the United coach discussed the recent redundancies that have become a pressing concern among fans anxious about the club’s trajectory.
“We must tackle all the issues facing the club, but a critical aspect is understanding how we found ourselves in this position. It largely stems from the lack of success of the football team.
“We are the driving force behind the club. My goal is to assist the team, the players, and to facilitate a successful outcome.
“It’s always tough for everyone involved. They witness their colleagues and fellow players losing their jobs; however, I must concentrate on how I can contribute to the club during this challenging period, and we, as a club, need to recognise what we did wrong to reach this point.”
When probed about whether the negative atmosphere surrounding the club complicates their ability to secure victories—something they’ve struggled with this season—Amorim shared his thoughts.
“Winning football matches is already a challenge in itself. This year has been particularly tough for everyone because our club has undergone significant changes.
“When a football club is performing well and winning, it’s easier for fans and everyone involved to adapt to changes. Right now, we are facing a difficult phase both on and off the pitch.
“We must do our jobs and strive to help the team perform to the best of their abilities.”
Despite their struggles and current standing, Amorim maintains a positive outlook heading into the match against Ipswich, believing it could mark a fresh beginning.
“Since my arrival, I have always aimed to win every home game. I don’t feel pressured—our supporters are incredible.
“Every time you step into Old Trafford, you can feel the backing until the very end. I don’t experience pressure—we need to reflect on the last match and think of this as a new game with the potential for a new narrative.”
In closing, Amorim shared some team news, which included both positive and negative updates.
“We’re maintaining the same squad. They’re making progress, but no one will be fit to return for this match.”
