Is there anyone capable of halting Adelaide United’s momentum? The soaring Reds continued their unbeaten run with a narrow 1-0 victory over Central Coast Mariners in the Ninja A-League.
American striker Erin Healy emerged as the standout performer for Adelaide, helping the team to extend their unbeaten streak to 11 matches on Saturday night.
Healy’s sixth goal of the season gave the Reds the lead in the 51st minute—an advantage they maintained throughout the match. With this win, second-placed Adelaide remains four points adrift of Melbourne City and just one point ahead of Melbourne Victory, further extending a club record that dates back to December 20.
The Mariners ended the match with just 10 players after Shadeene Evans received a second yellow card just past the hour mark. They now face a challenge as they risk finishing outside the top six by the end of Round 18.
It was a special occasion for Matilda McNamara, who notched up her 50th appearance for the Reds.
The first half featured a stalemate, largely due to the impressive goalkeeping performance of Central Coast’s Sarah Langman.
Langman made an exceptional save to deny Chelsea Dawber in a one-on-one situation nine minutes before half-time.
This was a significant escape for the Mariners, but Adelaide surged ahead early in the second half.
Healy struck for the Reds just six minutes after the break, and the home side did not falter, securing all three points with resolute defending.
