Bayern Munich made a remarkable comeback, overcoming a one-goal deficit to secure a 3-1 victory against VfB Stuttgart on Friday, which solidified their position at the summit of the Bundesliga. Coach Vincent Kompany praised his team’s resilience, describing the match as “a true German top clash.”
After a challenging first half that saw Stuttgart take the lead through Angelo Stiller, Bayern regained their composure, with Michael Orlisz equalising just before the interval.
“Winning away at Stuttgart has never been easy for me; I’ve never managed it as a player. However, I savoured this victory as Stuttgart started stronger,” Kompany expressed in a media briefing.
“As a collective, we required about 30 minutes to discover our rhythm. From that point on, every player stepped up, contributing significantly in crucial moments and winning a host of duels.” he continued.
Bayern took charge in the 64th minute when Leon Goretzka added a second goal to their tally. In the dying moments of the game, Stuttgart’s Josha Vagnoman misdirected a back pass to goalkeeper Alexander Nubel, enabling Kingsley Coman to pounce and score from a distance, sealing the win.
This victory places Bayern at the top of the league with 61 points, 11 clear of Bayer Leverkusen, despite having played an extra match.
Kompany noted that the team’s recent fixtures have been demanding, with three games played in just six days, but emphasised that there are no excuses at this level.
“Staying calm and preparing for the next game is essential, and that’s precisely what this team has done and will continue to do. Throughout my career, I’ve adhered to that mindset, and that will never change, regardless of the circumstances.
