Atletico Madrid’s coach Diego Simeone has lavished praise on his standout forward Julian Alvarez (25) after he netted a brace in their 3-0 victory against Valencia on Saturday.
Simeone expressed his pleasure with Alvarez’s maturity and humility, as well as his unwavering determination to work hard and remain focused despite a sluggish start to his inaugural season in the Spanish capital.
The manager indicated that Alvarez embodied everything Atletico required when they secured his services in the off-season for a fee of approximately 75 million euros ($78.44 million), with an additional 20 million in potential bonuses from Manchester City.
“Even when he wasn’t demonstrating the form we envisioned at the time of his signing, I maintained that I believed he possessed Atleti’s DNA,” Simeone stated during a press conference.
“That’s why we were so excited then and why that feeling endures. It’s particularly due to the way he approaches his game. He has achieved so much by the age of 25 – including the World Cup with Argentina, the Champions League, and the Premier League with Manchester City. His continued humility sets him apart from the rest.”
Thanks to this victory, Atletico temporarily ascended to the top of La Liga with 53 points, before Barcelona reclaimed first place later in the day with a 2-0 win over Las Palmas.
