Elena Rybakina (25) expressed her disappointment on Wednesday regarding the WTA’s decision to maintain a ban against her former coach, Stefano Vukov, following an investigation into a possible breach of its code of conduct.
Rybakina, who secured the 2022 Wimbledon title under Vukov’s guidance, concluded their five-year collaboration in August, just days before the US Open.
In January, Vukov faced provisional suspension by the women’s tennis governing body, and Rybakina stated that he had “never mistreated her.”
Vukov has denied any wrongdoing, asserting to The Athletic last month that he “never abused anyone” following the initial report on the WTA’s temporary ban.
“The WTA confirms that the independent investigation into a potential violation of the WTA Code of Conduct by Stefano Vukov has been completed,” the WTA noted in a statement.
“As a result of this process, the suspension will remain in effect. To ensure the confidentiality and integrity of the investigation and its outcomes, the WTA will not be divulging any further information.
“We are dedicated to ensuring that all matters are addressed fairly and objectively in accordance with the WTA Code of Conduct.”
The WTA has not disclosed the duration of the suspension.
Before last month’s Australian Open, Rybakina mentioned her intention to reinstate Vukov in her team; however, his suspension has rendered him ineligible for WTA tournament credentials.
“I’m simply disappointed with how the situation unfolded and the process involved. I won’t be commenting further on that,” stated the world number seven after her victory over Rebecca Sramkova at the Qatar Open.
“My focus is on my matches, and when I step onto the court, I’m solely concentrating on how I need to play, as well as, of course, on my opponent.
“It’s certainly not the ideal situation, but as I’ve said, I always focus on my matches and aim to perform to the best of my abilities.”
Rybakina had a brief collaboration with Goran Ivanisevic, former coach of Novak Djokovic, who left her team following a fourth-round exit at the Australian Open.
The Russian-born Kazakh has since added former Italian player Davide Sanguinetti to her team earlier this month.
