Sam Konstas is determined to do whatever it takes to secure a spot in the Australia squad for the World Test Championship final at Lord’s.
The 19-year-old made his debut on Boxing Day against India at the MCG and went on to play in the fifth Test at the SCG, but has since been dropped for Australia’s upcoming two-Test tour of Sri Lanka.
However, his early return from Galle has only intensified his drive to reclaim an opening position.
Having swiftly returned to Australia, Konstas is set to participate in Saturday’s Sheffield Shield clash between his NSW side and Queensland at the Gabba.
He is eager for more playing time, as he becomes eligible to compete in the UK, given that the regulations allow foreign players with at least one Test appearance in the past 36 months.

Reports suggest that Konstas’ management is actively negotiating with various county teams, aiming to secure a short-term contract prior to the WTC, maximising his opportunity for red-ball experience.
With eight rounds of County Championship cricket taking place from April to May, Australia’s WTC final against South Africa is scheduled for June 11 to 15 at Lord’s.
While many county rosters are nearly finalised, Konstas’ representatives are fervently promoting the young talent’s aggression and fearlessness in hopes of making a fast impact.
What better way to gear up for a potential Ashes debut later this year than by facing those very bowlers in the UK?
If Konstas successfully secures a county contract, he will join fellow Australian all-rounder Beau Webster, who is currently signed with Warwickshire.
Together, they would be the only Australians representing in county cricket and also vying for a place in the Ashes squad.
Furthermore, an additional stint in the UK could bolster Konstas’ chances of selection for the three-Test series in the West Indies this June and July.
It looks increasingly likely that Konstas will keep his opening position alongside Usman Khawaja for the WTC as Australia aims for back-to-back titles.
