RC Strasbourg continued their impressive streak in Ligue 1, stretching their unbeaten record to seven matches (W6, D1) with a resounding 4-2 victory against Olympique Lyonnais, propelling them ahead of Paulo Fonseca’s squad into fifth place in the standings.
Lyon started the encounter on a strong note, as Jordan Veretout—returning to Ligue 1 action for the first time in nearly two months—attempted an audacious shot from an angle, which the Serbian goalkeeper Đorđe Petrović had to parry away.
Veretout was heavily involved in the early action, forcing another save from the Chelsea loanee after a brilliant interplay with Rayan Cherki.
Moments later, the visitors nearly broke through, as Georges Mikautadze unleashed a powerful left-footed strike that struck the crossbar, following a well-timed assist from Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Fonseca’s team maintained the pressure, with Veretout heading narrowly over from Mikautadze’s enticing cross. Meanwhile, the hosts struggled to make an impact, with Emanuel Emegha missing a chance to connect well with Dilane Bakwa’s delivery.
Lyon appeared to have found the opener when Ernest Nuamah’s deflected effort beat Petrović, but it was disallowed for offside.
Strasbourg returned from the break with increased energy, punishing Lyon for their earlier inefficiency by scoring first. Andrey Santos timed his run perfectly to connect with Bakwa’s corner, delivering a powerful header beyond Lucas Perri.
With fresh momentum, Liam Rosenior’s team soon increased their lead as Bakwa scored with an impressive left-footed shot from the edge of the box in the 60th minute.
The excitement of the second half didn’t end there, as Lyon clawed one back just three minutes later in a manner Petrović would prefer to forget.
The Serbian struggled to handle Cherki’s initial strike, allowing Corentin Tolisso to head in the rebound.
Strasbourg quickly restored their two-goal cushion through Emegha, who expertly fired his angled shot past Perri from Valentín Barco’s assist, celebrating his 50th Ligue 1 appearance in style.
However, the scoring wasn’t finished yet, as Sam Amo-Ameyaw netted from close range, marking his first goal for Strasbourg since joining from Southampton last month.
Lyon managed to end the night on a high, with Mikautadze converting a penalty in stoppage time.
This result capped off a successful evening for Rosenior’s men, who remain solid at home with just one league loss at the Stade de la Meinau this season (W8, D4).
Le Racing are in excellent form as they strive for European competition next season, while Lyon’s five consecutive wins across all competitions came to an abrupt stop, marking only their fifth defeat in the last 30 encounters with Strasbourg (W22, D3).
