Justin Rodski, the CEO of the Storm, is optimistic that Craig Bellamy will extend his legendary coaching career through to the 2026 season and potentially beyond.
Having previously indicated retirement, the three-time premiership coach has rejuvenated his passion thanks to the current squad of players.
Last season, Melbourne reached the grand final but narrowly lost to Penrith, positioning them as strong contenders for this year’s title.
The usual speculation surrounding Bellamy’s future—typically a hot topic around this time—has yet to surface, as there is a prevailing expectation that he will remain at the helm.
In a clear sign of confidence, the club’s chief executive remarked to 9News Melbourne that he “doesn’t see any reason why” Bellamy wouldn’t prolong his time with the Storm.

“We’ll be sitting down with Craig in the coming weeks,” Rodski stated.
“All signs I’ve received so far are very promising. He is truly enjoying his role as a coach, arriving at work with plenty of energy and supported by a fantastic group of players.
“I can’t see any reason why he wouldn’t want to continue coaching, but we need to have a conversation about it. I’m feeling quite optimistic about his enthusiasm for coaching in the future.”

“He still has plenty of great coaching left in him—he’s still a young man full of energy, passion, and desire, and is coaching at an exceptional level.
“Let’s hope it’s not just next year but for many more to come.”
At 65, Bellamy has been at the Storm’s helm for over two decades, navigating through challenges such as the salary cap scandal in the late 2000s.
Fans have recently seen a more relatable side to Bellamy, particularly showcased in his documentary on Stan Sport, which provided an inside look at the Storm’s operations.
Frank Ponissi, the club’s head of football, has suggested that Bellamy could draw “inspiration” from a fellow veteran coach to further his career.
“He’s coaching better than I’ve ever seen,” he shared on 4BC Radio.
“There’s no reason he shouldn’t continue, and Wayne Bennett is proving that age is no barrier. He is achieving remarkable things … that should motivate Craig.”
Melbourne is set to face the Warriors in round six at AAMI Park.
