Thomas Thomasberg, coach of FC Midtjylland, expressed his disappointment after the Danish champions were unable to widen their lead at the summit of the Danish Superliga, suffering a 2-0 defeat at home in Herning.
With this setback, FC Midtjylland has now managed just one victory against Brondby out of their past eight encounters. The visitors claimed victory with goals from Mathias Kvistgaarden and Nicolai Vallys, sealing a 2-0 win in Herning.
“It’s hard to imagine a worse outcome than losing at home,” Thomasberg told dr.dk.
“On the plus side, we still have a decent points total, but this was certainly not the start we had aimed for. The championship playoffs will be tightly contested, so we must sharpen our skills to ensure that outcomes are not left to chance,” remarked Thomas Thomasberg.
Aral Simsir shared in the frustration, noting that FC Midtjylland has now created an opportunity for FC Copenhagen to close the gap on the league leaders.
“We shouldn’t focus too much on whether FC Copenhagen wins or not. Our concentration should be on our own performance. If we had secured a win today, it wouldn’t have mattered what they did,” said Aral Simsir.

“But now they have the chance to reduce the gap to just one point, which is undoubtedly frustrating. Nonetheless, we must focus on our own game and aim for a strong performance against Randers on Friday,” he added.
FC Midtjylland had entered the playoffs with significant momentum, wrapping up the regular season with convincing victories over AaB (4-1) and Randers (4-2).
However, Sunday’s match fell far short of the standards set in their previous encounters.
“Today’s performance was subpar. We struggled offensively, and looking back over the match, it’s clear that we squandered the chance to build on the momentum we gained in the regular season,” Thomasberg concluded.
Randers is set to take on FC Copenhagen on Monday night ahead of facing FC Midtjylland on Friday.
