Paulo Dybala, the forward for AS Roma, faces the likelihood of missing the remainder of the season after the Serie A club announced on Thursday that the 31-year-old will need surgery on his thigh.
This season, Dybala has recorded eight goals and four assists across all competitions, with his last appearance being in a 1-0 victory over Cagliari last weekend.
“Paulo Dybala is set to undergo surgery in the coming days due to an injury to his left semitendinosus tendon,” Roma stated in an official announcement.
“Both the player and the club have agreed that this is the most appropriate path for a full recovery.”
While Roma did not specify a timeline for his comeback, surgical intervention on the semitendinosus tendon typically necessitates a recovery period of at least three months.
Since Claudio Ranieri’s appointment as manager in November, Roma has experienced a resurgence in Serie A, climbing from 12th to seventh place as they aim to secure a spot in European competition for the upcoming season.
They currently trail fifth-placed Juventus by three points and are four points behind fourth-placed Bologna.
Their next match is against Lecce on March 29th, following the international break.
