In a recent, amusing interview, Brandon Paenga-Amosa downplayed his surf lifesaving talents following a concerning incident at Coogee Beach.
Fortunately, the situation could have escalated much further had the Wallabies player not intervened to assist a distressed swimmer, pulling him to safety at the renowned Sydney beach.
The footage of the incident, which took place earlier this month while Paenga-Amosa’s Western Force were in Sydney to face the NSW Waratahs, was captured by the Stan Sport crew.

After the Force’s emphatic 52-15 victory over the Fijian Drua on Sunday afternoon, Stan’s Michael Atkinson presented the hooker with the clip in Perth.
“Mate, we’ve got to ask you about saving a man’s life in the surf at Sydney a couple of weeks back,” Atkinson remarked.
“Is this Brandon Paenga-Hasselhoff we’re talking about? You literally saved a man’s life!”

“Brandon Paenga-Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson,” the 29-year-old cheekily replied.
“Oh mate, I was simply in the right place at the right time. I can barely swim, so I’m thankful he wasn’t any further out; otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to reach him. I would have just waved him off and said ‘good luck mate.’ Luckily, it was only knee-deep.”

Wallabies legend Tim Horan commended the front-rower for stepping in before the lifesavers from Coogee arrived.
“They got there, looked at me, and I was like ‘mate, I’m doing your job for you.’ I can always sign up for thirty bucks an hour,” Paenga-Amosa joked.
Having previously worked as a garbageman, landscaper, and theology student, Paenga-Amosa is one of rugby’s inspiring tales in Australia, making it to the Wallabies after being overlooked by representative teams as a teenager.

“There are two types of people: those who run towards trouble and those who stay clear,” remarked Olympic gold medallist Alicia Lucas.
“I believe you’re the kind who runs into trouble, which is why your teammates at the Western Force adore you.”
The Auckland-born Paenga-Amosa, who has accumulated 20 Test caps, appeared slightly bashful about all the attention.

“Honestly, I just happened to be there,” he explained. “I didn’t exactly run into the fray.
“This fellow swam by me and I said, ‘brother, I’ve got you, man’.”
