For the second consecutive week, AC Milan staged a comeback to clinch a win, this time triumphing 2-1 against Como at the iconic San Siro. This result extends Milan’s unbeaten streak against Como to 14 matches, dating back to the 1984/85 season.
After a spirited turnaround against Lecce last week, Milan aimed to carry that momentum into this clash with a strong opening. However, Yunus Musah squandered a golden opportunity, shooting wide with the goal at his mercy following an incisive Rossoneri move within the first five minutes.
Como seized control of the match from there, though it took until just past the half-hour mark for them to finally test the skills of Mike Maignan.
Once called into action, the French keeper was busy, rushing off his line to deny Nico Paz moments before being beaten just a minute later.
A beautifully orchestrated attack by Como culminated in Assane Diao finding Paz, whose clever first-time lay-off set up Lucas Da Cunha to unleash a brilliant strike that nestled into the bottom corner.
Marc-Oliver Kempf nearly doubled the visitors’ advantage before half-time; he lost Matteo Gabbia’s attention to connect with a cross but was thwarted by Maignan’s save.
The lacklustre performance from Milan drew frustration from the San Siro crowd as the opening half closed, with boos reverberating throughout the stadium as players made their way to the locker rooms.
Sergio Conceicao reacted by making two substitutions at half-time, including the withdrawal of Theo Hernandez. Como almost found the net again within five minutes of the restart.
Da Cunha raced down the right flank and scored past Maignan with a deflection off Gabbia, only for the goal to be ruled out for the narrowest of offside decisions by VAR.
This stroke of luck proved invaluable for the Rossoneri, who quickly levelled the score.
Tijjani Reijnders delivered a delicate pass into the box, finding Christian Pulisic on the inside left. Pulisic’s instinctive shot from a tight angle astonishingly found the bottom corner.
The match was finely poised from that moment onward. Da Cunha forced another fine save from Maignan, before Reijnders came close with a shot that struck the crossbar and went over.
The introduction of Tammy Abraham made a significant impact for Milan; it was his hold-up play that enabled him to assist Reijnders, who finished at the near post to give the hosts a crucial lead.
Como brought on Dele Alli for his long-awaited debut — his first game in over two years — as they searched for an equaliser. Unfortunately for Alli, his return was short-lived; he received a red card for a reckless challenge on Ruben Loftus-Cheek just ten minutes after coming on.
Milan managed to maintain their composure and secure back-to-back league victories for only the third time this season, lifting them into the top seven, while Como extended their winless run to three matches.
