Dylan Brown has acknowledged that transitioning to the halfback position will be a new experience for him following the Knights’ lucrative 10-year, $14 million contract.
In a candid discussion with Michael Chammas on Nine’s 100% Footy, the departing Eels player was upfront about his readiness to fulfil the halfback role, despite reports indicating the Knights had signed him specifically for that position.
“At this moment, I wouldn’t classify myself as a seven; I’m a six,” he stated.
“I’ve played as a six my entire career until now. I’m my own player, and the Knights have communicated their understanding of that. They’re willing to embrace me for who I am right now.”

Brown’s agreement with the Knights followed the inclusion of several player options in his contract with the Eels.
The Parramatta management faced criticism for allowing exit clauses. However, Brown asserted that such provisions won’t be present with the Knights.
“I’m sure Newcastle is aware of the issues those clauses brought me while at Parramatta, so no, I’m locked in for 10 years,” he affirmed.

As Brown prepares for his new chapter with Newcastle next season, he revealed that since signing the contract, he had always harboured a desire to remain with the Eels.
In the interview, he mentioned that he “thought nothing would materialise” but recommended his agent explore available opportunities.
After inking the deal with Newcastle, the 24-year-old communicated at his press conference that his choice was not primarily motivated by finances, but rather by the guaranteed 10-year commitment.

Many ridiculed his earlier comments, prompting Brown to clarify his statements.
“I was very honest with Parramatta about the challenges I was facing and what Newcastle had to offer,” he elaborated.
“I wanted to extend my time at Parra, but they weren’t able to match Newcastle’s offer, despite their efforts. Their vision didn’t align with that of the Newcastle Knights, which ultimately attracted me more.
“While the financial aspect is certainly a perk, the 10-year commitment played the most significant role in my decision to join.”
