PSV’s head coach Peter Bosz has admitted that he witnessed a ‘nervous’ performance from his side during their Eredivisie showdown with Ajax on Sunday.
In a pivotal match for the championship, PSV, currently in second place, welcomed league leaders Ajax to Eindhoven. With a 6-point deficit, a victory for PSV would have narrowed the gap to just 3 points.
However, a 2-0 defeat, courtesy of goals from Davy Klaassen and Bertrand Traore, has effectively sidelined PSV in the title race, as Bosz expressed to ESPN following the match. “Things would have to go completely haywire. What is it? Seven games, nine points. That’s generally beyond reach,” he remarked.
This loss marks Ajax’s second victory over PSV this season, having previously triumphed 3-2 at home in October. Italian manager Francesco Farioli employed a solid defensive approach in Eindhoven, reminiscent of Ajax’s strategy during their initial encounter. “Ajax thoroughly deserved the win,” Bosz added.

“I can’t pinpoint anything different in their play compared to what we usually face. The reality is that they executed their game plan more effectively than we did. I didn’t find our performance satisfactory at all, especially in the first half. The second half, however, started on a better note.”
Bosz and his PSV squad entered this match full of renewed hope after claiming consecutive Eredivisie victories, their first such streak since early December. However, the team’s recent dip in form had cost them their position at the summit, allowing Ajax to establish an 8-point lead.
Unfortunately for Bosz, the team he observed on the pitch bore little resemblance to the one he had seen flourish earlier. “I’ve seen us perform better football than this before. Regrettably, that wasn’t the case today. The performance was nervous and not reflective of our true capabilities.”
