A significant defeat at home in Townsville could result in further distress for the struggling Cowboys.
North Queensland’s standout winger, Murray Taulagi, is now facing potential disciplinary action for a high tackle on Cronulla’s Jesse Ramien during Saturday’s 36-12 victory for the Sharks.
Diving for more points in the first half, Cronulla’s halfback Nicho Hynes sent the ball to his right centre.
Ramien received the pass but was swiftly brought down by an impactful hit from Taulagi.
Referee Liam Kennedy quickly signalled for a penalty in favour of the Sharks and subsequently placed Taulagi on report.
“I’m not so sure about this – Ramien received a hospital pass from Hynes,” commented Sharks legend Michael Ennis during the commentary.

“He’s deep into the line, but Taulagi is waiting, just launches himself. He just clips him on the chin.
“Absolutely knocked him off his feet, completely levelled him.”
Despite the penalty awarded for the high tackle, Taulagi remained on the field for the remainder of the match.
Veteran pundit Andrew Voss questioned whether the impact was indeed high.

“I’m not convinced… if a player gets smashed in the chin, you’d expect a different reaction,” Voss remarked.
“Is that serious enough?”
Following a devastating loss to Manly, the Cowboys struggled to present any resistance at home.

Origin representative Taulagi was once again under the microscope when he mishandled the ball late in the match.
Ennis pointed out that Taulagi has lost his wing partner, Val Holmes, who transferred to the Dragons in the off-season.
“Taulagi previously enjoyed a strong partnership with Valentine Holmes; their synergy on that left flank was impressive,” Ennis noted.
“Murray’s start to the season has been challenging… at his peak, he’s a world-class player, but he’s not producing those levels right now.
“You expect more from him.”
