The paths that Georgia and Cal took to become officials in motorsport were quite different, yet both shared an exhilarating anticipation for being part of the 2025 Louis Vuitton Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
Georgia’s foray into track marshalling was sparked by a simple online inquiry.
“I searched for ‘Formula 1 officials’ and found a link to apply,” Georgia recounted.
“I thought I might as well apply and see what unfolds. A few months later, I received the green light.”

Now, as a first-time volunteer, she was particularly keen to dive into the behind-the-scenes aspects of motorsport.
“You always see it on TV from behind the barriers, so I’m eager to be part of the community that makes it all happen,” Georgia stated.
Although Georgia was initially uncertain about the specifics of her role, she was thrilled and appreciative to play a part. During her experience, she forged new friendships and connections with fellow motorsport officials.
“I had no expectations going into the [Grand Prix] weekend, but that didn’t bother me; I welcomed the challenge,” Georgia expressed.
“I learned during the briefing that it operates on a mentor-based system, where I’ll get to learn all the ins and outs.”
For Cal, her journey into officiating was inspired by the FIA Girls on Track programme.
After building connections with seasoned officials, she began her marshalling journey at smaller events before progressing to the Australian Grand Prix.
“The best aspect of officiating is undoubtedly the people,” Cal shared.
“Being involved in motorsport and meeting others who share my passion is simply fantastic.”

Her advice for newcomers considering officiating is to start at a local level.
“Beginning with smaller events is the best way to gather experience,” Cal elaborated.
“You connect with many people and become part of a vibrant community.”
Both Georgia and Cal embody the essence of volunteering in motorsport, embracing the unpredictable, learning from mentors, and fostering camaraderie trackside.
Their passion reflects that of long-standing Motorsport Australia officials, who commenced their journeys as teenagers and now lead teams at the pinnacle of the sport.
If you’re inspired to get involved, don’t hesitate to take that first step: ask questions and immerse yourself in the world of motorsport officiating.
